Pr. Dr. SANGDEL, a Deputy at the Grand Council of Geneva, is an active member of the committees on education, higher education, and housing. Specialising in Leadership and Entrepreneurship, he speaks seven languages, has travelled to over a hundred countries, and currently leads SWISS UMEF, a higher education institution in Geneva, accredited by the Swiss Accreditation Council.

Biography:

Pr. Dr Djawed SANGDEL was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, and arrived in Geneva, Switzerland, on October 22, 1999, as an immigrant fleeing war in his homeland. At the age of 19, he quickly integrated into Swiss society and now feels it is his duty to serve his adopted country, particularly the Canton of Geneva, where he was naturalised in 2011. Married with four children, he has resided in Vernier since 2006. Fluent in seven languages and having travelled to over 100 countries, he brings a wealth of experience and an international perspective.

Pr. Dr SANGDEL is an expert in leadership and entrepreneurship. As a committed member of the Geneva Parliament, he actively engages in education, sports, culture, and housing. His remarkable journey, shaped by migration and entrepreneurial success, makes him a strong advocate of meritocracy. Throughout his career, he has focused on making higher education accessible to as many people as possible, notably by offering scholarships. To him, education is the key to life.

Academic Activities:

Director General of SWISS UMEF:

Since 2010, Pr. Dr SANGDEL has served as Director General of SWISS UMEF, a higher education institution founded in 1984 in Geneva and accredited by the Swiss Accreditation Council. Under his leadership, SWISS UMEF became the first private institution in Geneva to be accredited by the Swiss Confederation. He also teaches and conducts research in leadership and entrepreneurship.

Creation and Leadership of Universities:

Pr. Dr SANGDEL has founded and directed several private universities across three continents: Europe, Asia, and Africa. His commitment to education is reflected in his numerous articles and books on leadership and education.

Conferences and Training:

A PhD holder in Management Sciences from the University Jean Moulin Lyon 3 in France, Pr. Dr SANGDEL organises high-level training sessions at SWISS UMEF, featuring international speakers such as Nobel laureates, heads of state, prime ministers, and leading academic thinkers.

Publications:

Pr. Dr SANGDEL has authored several books and articles on leadership and entrepreneurship.

Deputy in the Geneva Grand Council:

Elected in April 2023 on the Liberties and Social Justice (LJS) list, Pr. Dr SANGDEL serves as a Deputy in the Geneva Grand Council. He is a member of the committees on education, higher education, and housing, and participates in the following delegations: the Interparliamentary Supervisory Commission for the Roman School Convention and the Interparliamentary Supervisory Commission for HES-SO.

Coming from a family with liberal political leanings, Pr. Dr SANGDEL has been interested in politics from a young age. His political vision is based on creating sustainable value for citizens in a globalised world, with a strong commitment to social justice, transcending traditional partisan divides.
